Historical paintings and photographs depicting the Hatea River environs in the 19th and early 20th Century.
13th February to 10th March 2012
In the course of the Society’s 53 years we have acquired a number of paintings for our permanent collection of scenes of the Hatea River and its environs. The earliest of these paintings are historic treasures dating back to 1880.
Alongside these works will be a collection of photographs (some sourced from the Drummond Te Wake Collection) showing the early pioneer settlement of Whangarei on the banks of the Hatea River, the original shorelines and later reclamations, and the life that went on along the river in early times.
