Painting with Palette Knife with Elena Nikolaeva
1day course; Saturday 6th of October, 10.00 am - 3.30 pm.
Fee: non-member - $50 / NSA Members - $45
Students will explore the possibilities of applying paints with palette knives; how to paint both large expanses and intricate objects; how to build textures; how to paint with palette knife on dark backgrounds, and how to combine painting with brush and palette knife techniques.

2D Abstract Painting with Elena Nikolaeva
1day course; Saturday 13th of October, 10.00 am - 3.30 pm.

This workshop is about the rules of abstract, 2D compositions: types of compositions, rhythm, proportion of elements, balance, static–dynamic, tectonic, colour schemes..

Creating your own compositions on canvas with Elena Nikolaeva
2day course; Saturday 3rd & Saturday 10th November, 10.00 am - 3.30 pm.
Fee: non-member - $95 / NSA Members - $90
Students will explore different ways to transform and personalise a photographic image. They will create several paintings based on the same image. They will learn how to use rules of composition, linear and aerial perspective, balance of positive and negative space and the importance of light.

Water Colour Made Easy with Adrienne Dietrich
2day course; Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th November, 10.00 am - 3.30 pm.
Fee: non-member - $95 / NSA Members - $90
Water colour painting is full of “tricks”. Learning these “tricks” and incorporating them in simple paintings will make water colours easy to do. Adrienne will demonstrate how to do a vignette, use simplified colour techniques, turn a drawing into a painting and much more. The importance of sunlight and shadows is emphasised. Learn about the use of tone and complementary colours and the way in which composition can improve a painting.

3D Mixed Abstract Media with Elena Nikolaeva
2day course; Saturday 24th November & Saturday 1st December, 10.00 am - 3.30 pm.
Fee: non-member - $95 / NSA Members - $90
Students will learn how to create abstract compositions incorporating textures, patterns and non-traditional elements based on general rules of composition and colour co-ordination. They will explore two themes: Nature & Civilisation.

You will then be sent an information pack describing the workshop(s) you’re interested in and a list of the materials you would need to bring.
NOTE: Should you wish the Workshop Tutor to provide the materials for you, this can be arranged for an additional materials fee.
Payment for each workshop to be made in cash or by cheque (made out to the Northland Society of Arts) on the first day of each workshop.
